Membership Chair: Chairperson (Meghan Tepfenhardt) will keep computer records of membership enrollment, submit dues with the aid of Treasurer, and issue membership cards. An ongoing position.
Box Tops for Education: Chairperson (Gretchen Penn) is responsible for sending out reminders for families to send in box tops and labels, collecting them from the designated return boxes at the school, tallying amounts and sending them to the respective companies to earn cash for the school throughout the year. Also, randomly pick a name from the designated return box each month, for a prize.
Concessions: Chairperson (NEEDED ASAP!) is responsible for setting up allergy aware snack at all concerts, responsible for arranging for food to be served at Blood Drives and contacting Treasurer for appropriate cash box and cash tally sheet.
Sportswear: (Fall & Spring) Chairperson (TBD) will organize the fundraising event, will distribute school flyers, display samples in school lobby, collect orders, and coordinate a team of volunteers to sort and distribute orders. This is a Fall and Spring sale we are just began coordinating with Miller Avenue and Prodell Middle School as of last year.
School Photos(9/26) : Chairperson (Jennifer Kitchen) is responsible to contact the photo company to schedule school photos. Must send master list to photo company, have the Principal arrange schedule for Photo Day, collect orders from students, and distribute photos when they arrive at the school. Also must schedule volunteers to assist on photo day.
Square One Art Sale: Chairperson (Kim Makarewicz) is responsible to contact the company for supplies, to work with the art teacher to have the students draw their art in class, to send out flyers and completed art to family for review, to collect and log orders, and to send the orders to the art company for reproduction. Duties include sorting and distributing artwork upon arrival at school. Note: Artwork may need to be sent home directly as the art teacher prefers to do guided projects and students prefer to complete unique projects.
Book Fair: Chairpersons (Cindy Stewart/Laurie Maxwell- Fall. Ashley Hadjoglou- Spring) are responsible to work with the company. Duties include sending out flyers to students about upcoming book fair, arrange a class schedule for book purchases, arrange teacher pre-view, arrange family night and schedule volunteers to work during the book fair. This is done twice a year. 10/15-10/19 and 3/19-3/22
Science Fair: Chairperson (Andrea Stadler) is responsible to coordinate a Science Fair for students. Duties include providing the students with information regarding project requirements, arranging for representatives from the Brookhaven National Laboratory to judge the projects, and coordinate the set up of the projects in the gymnasium the day of the Fair. Must also set up schedule of volunteers to assist during the day of the Fair. Mad Science usually sets up a Goo booth or performs the evening of the science fair. In addition, arts in ed brings a science themed artist in Feb to get students excited about the fair.
Screen Turnoff Week (TBD): (April) Chairperson is responsible for sending out flyers to inform families of Screen Turnoff Week. Duties include organizing and coordinate with teachers events in the evening at the school during the week. Collect the names of the participants from the PTA mailbox, and present prizes to those who chosen from a daily raffle held each day. Also must organize a schedule of volunteers to assist with sorting grades and picking winners. Monday– Kick off assembly by Principal. Possible evening events that occur the same week include : Monday Math Night, Wednesday Evening of the Arts, Thursday and/or Friday Game Night (Brain Show or Live TV). Need to coordinate week with Miller Ave
PARP (Parents Are Reading Partners) (5/5-5/10) : Chairperson (Erin Hunt) is responsible for sending out flyers to inform families of PARP and to furnish families with reading materials to encourage parents to read with their children. Prizes are given for participation.
Field Day: (June) Chairperson (TBD) is responsible for arranging to have water & lunch purchased and delivered to the students on that day. Coordination with PE teachers and creation of a master volunteer list and decided if you will order tee shirts for the students.
Arts in Education: Chairperson (Lynn Losquadro) is responsible to coordinate a balanced cultural arts program with principal that includes arranging for guest authors, storytellers and performers to come to the school and share their talent with the children. Duties include meeting with the principal and PTA president to discuss a yearly budget for this program. Duties also include attending PTA Arts in Education Showcase.
Fall Family Game Night (11/16): Chairperson (Susan Sefton/Noreen Durfee) is responsible for sending out all flyers, contacting teachers for grade level baskets (teachers do these baskets), arrange for food and snacks. When collecting money for tickets, must get funds to treasurer as soon as possible, and send tickets home with children. Usually a Bingo night.
Staff/Volunteer Luncheon(9/4 & 5/3): Chairperson (Ann Weber-Hughes) is responsible for organizing a luncheon to thank staff and volunteers. Duties include sending out flyers requesting help and donated food/beverage/paper goods it, organizing the food, volunteers, decorations and gifts.
Bulletin Boards: Ongoing: Chairperson (Laura Shackelford) is needed to decorate bulletin board of the school lobby, organizing around school, PTA themes and seasons. Must be approved by principal.
Blood Drive: Chairperson (Colette Grosso) is responsible for setting up and organizing the blood drive.
Scholarship Committee (three people needed): President will receive applications, white out all names and give the committee the applications. Committee must choose two candidates that meet the scholarship requirements.
Audit Committee/ Checkbook reconciliation (Erin Hunt, Mike Lewis, Henry Perez , Thomas Boerum ) : One person reconciles the checkbook monthly and also sits on the audit committee. Usually made up of 2 people and treasurer (Incoming treasurer is encouraged to participate) The Audit Committee is responsible for conducting internal audits or coordinating external audits, as needed. This committee is essential for assuring the PTA is adhering to financial guidelines as dictated by the bylaws, the Department of Education Chancellor's Regulations, and city & state laws.
Monster Mash: (10/19) Chairperson (Abbe Sears) This is our annual Halloween dance for the students of Wading River Elementary. Chairperson coordinates ticket sales, food, and DJ for the event.
Wildcat Wagon Chairpersons (Marguerite Daly and Jennifer Kitchen) At Wading River Fruity Friday is sold on the Wildcat Wagon, where students can also purchase pencils, erasers and other fun items! Chairpersons are responsible for maintaining inventory, and coordinating volunteers. Dates: 9/28, 10/12, 10/26, 11/9, 11/30, 12/14, 1/4,1/18, 2/14, 3/1,3/15, 3/29, 4/12, 5/3, 5/17, 5/31, 6/14
Holiday Boutique (12/3-12/7) Chairperson (Jennifer Kitchen ) responsible for handling monies as per PTA procedures, creating flyers, discussing schedule with building principal, ordering items, set up, sell, schedule volunteers and return stock. They also need to submit paperwork of items sold to PTA president.
Gingerbead Houses (12/7) Chairperson (Meghan Gallo/Andrea Stadler) is responsible for creating flyer, ordering gingerbread houses, decoration, refreshments, etc.
SRO 5th Grade Play (January) Chairperson (Jen Oliveri, Lisa Hernandex, Shari Damianos) Organizing 5th Grade play.
Talent Show (3/1) Chairpersons (Tara Green, Justine Vricella) are responsible to work with/ booking the company. Duties include sending out flyers to students about upcoming book fair, arrange performance schedule and rehearsal, decorate and facilitate the purchase of trophies, schedule volunteers to work during the event and manage monies using PTA protocol.
Boosterthon Chairperson (Andrea Stadler) is responsible for decorating, creating flyer, correspondence with Boosterthon, etc.
Someone Special Dance (5/10) Chairperson (Erin Hunt) is responsible for working with the set budget to organizing decor, event details, creation of flyer, approving food with school nurse, managing money using PTA procedures and delegating tasks to make the event a success. This is our annual family dance for the students of Wading River Elementary. Chairperson also coordinates ticket sales, food, and DJ for the event. Try to collaborate with PARP chair (Erin Hunt) to decorate using same theme.
Plant Sale (5/10) Chairperson (Jill Ceschini and Lisa Perez) is responsible to work with the company, submit order, sending out flyers to students, data collection for orders, arrange a class schedule for day of purchases, schedule volunteers to work during the plant sale and manage monies using PTA protocol.
